Hennessey Venom GT: 1200cp pe 1100kg

Rar auzi de situatii in care americanii colaboreaza cu englezii, dar atunci cand a fost cazul, rezultatele au fost spectaculoase. Asta ar fi la baza acestei masini misterioase, o colaborare comparata cu cea din al Doilea Razboi Mondial, unde avionul de vanatoare american P-51 Mustang era pus in miscare de un motor britanic Rolls-Royce. Din fericire nu avem de-a face cu o masinarie de ucis in masa, dar sigur avem de-a face cu o noua arma in razboiul mondial al masinilor rapide: Hennessey .

Reprezentatii celor doua parti ar putea fi descrisi astfel: Engineering este un tuner din Texas, cu o istorie in ceea ce priveste muscle car-urile americane – atat moderne cat si clasice. Ei reprezinta partea americana a acestui proiect iar partea britanica este “scheletul”, masina de baza de unde a inceput toata nebunia asta si locul unde proiectul ia nastere: Elise si Silvestone, Anglia. Incepe sa devina interesant asa ca hai sa intram in mai multe detalii.

Orice om al carui sange poate fi masurat de cifra octanica si-ar dori o masina ultra-usoara, foarte manevrabila si cu un monstru de motor. Primele doua aspecte sunt indeplinite cu succes de peste 10 ani de Lotus-ul Elise, deci alegerea lui nu a fost deloc grea. Motorul e in spate, tractiunea e tot acolo, caroseria e din fibra de sticla deci greutate redusa, ce sa mai… o jucarie pentru circuite.

Motorul, insa, este partea cea mai tare a Venom-ului GT. Echipa Hennessey fiind obisnuita cu mari, supraalimentate si galagioase, au mers pe varianta cea mai la indemana dar si si au zis ca vor pune pe aceata masina LS9-le. In limbaj omenesc asta inseamna motorul pe care-l gasim pe , un V8 supraalimentat de 6.2 litrii. Suna haotic, mai ales daca luam in calcul ca ZR1 este o masina foarte rapida stock iar Elise-ul are cateva sute (bune) de kilograme mai putin.

Dar asta nu e tot. Fiind o firma de tuning cu experienta pe acest motor, Hennessey il ofera cu 750cp, 1000cp si 1200cp, prin modificari realizate cu ajutorul a doua turbine, transmisie in 6 trepte si altele.

Scurtand un pic povestea, avem un tuner american cu un proiect galagios in cap, care modifica un motor deja foarte puternic, il urca in avion, il trimite in Anglia unde se monteaza pe masina, se realizeaza bodykit-ul si se testeaza. Toata caroseria si jantele vor fi fabricate din fibra de carbon, rezultand o greutate de 1024kg!

Ei planuiesc sa fabrice aproximativ 10 exemplare pe an si se estimeaza ca fiecare ar costa in jur de 600.000$.

Pana de curand am fost sceptic in ceea ce priveste finalul acestui proiect. 1200cp pe 1071kg suna a S.F. dar iata ca masina se aproprie din ce in ce mai mult de final, iar vazand filmuletele de mai jos lucrurile devin clare si se contureaza ideea unei masini-teroare. Trebuie mentionat ca masina va fi street-legal, va avea control al tractiunii, aer conditionat, radio (daca il va folosi cineva), etc.




A PICTURE TELLS A THOUSAND HORSEPOWER

SEALY, TEXAS & SILVERSTONE, ENGLAND, March 29, 2010 – Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) is pleased to introduce the first official images of its Venom GT . Based upon the Lotus Elise, the Venom GT combines a high-tech, lightweight British chassis with a powerful American V8.

“This is not the first time that Britain and America have joined forces to produce a weapon of mass propulsion”, said company founder and president, John Hennessey. “Over fifty years ago the American-built P51 Mustang fighter aircraft was flown into history powered by a British Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. Today the Hennessey Venom GT promises to set a new standard of power to weight ratio in the rarified air of today’s supercar market.”

SOMETIMES LESS EQUALS MORE
In the case of the Venom GT, less weight means more performance. The Venom GT will have a production curb weight of less than 2,400 lbs (1,071 kilos) aided by its lightweight carbon fiber bodywork and carbon fiber wheels. Stopping power is delivered via Brembo brakes with 6-piston calipers up front and 4-piston calipers in rear clamping down on 15-inch carbon ceramic rotors.

SOMETIMES MORE EQUALS MORE
The Venom GT’s base power plant is the supercharged 6.2 liter LS9 V8 (the same as in the Corvette ZR1) tweaked by HPE to 725 bhp. The company will also be offering 1000 bhp and 1200 bhp twin V8 engine variants. The mid-engine V8 will transmit its power to the rear tires via a Ricardo 6-speed gearbox.

POWER WITH CONTROL
Hennessey plans to manage power output by using a programmable traction control system. CFD (computational fluid dynamic) tested bodywork and down force will also help keep the Venom stable at speed. An active system with adjustable rear wing will deploy under varying conditions on both the road and racetrack. An adjustable suspension system will allow ride height adjustments according to speed and driving conditions. Finally, power will be put to the ground via massive Michelin PS2 tires at all four corners.

POWERED BY THE USA, BUILT IN THE UK
Hennessey will be building the power plants at its Texas facility. The engines will then be air freighted to the company’s assembly facility near Silverstone, England where the Venom GT is built and tested. Venom GT buyer will be offered a 1-day driver orientation and instruction program by a Hennessey factory test driver, at a track in the UK or USA prior to delivery.

LIMITED PRODUCTION
The company plans to establish a network of Venom GT dealers and distributors in the Middle East, Europe, Russia, Australia and Asia. Production is limited to just 10 vehicles per year and the company already has orders for 4 Venom GT’s.
